Department Assistant I

Be at the center of the Town’s financial operations, providing essential customer service, bookkeeping, and administrative support.

🎯 About the Role

This role provides customer service, bookkeeping, financial record-keeping, and administrative support within the Town’s financial operations. You will work collaboratively with the Finance team to manage municipal tax collections and daily office operations.

🛠️ Key Responsibilities

• 💬 Provide customer service to residents, taxpayers, and financial institutions.
• 🧾 Explain tax bills and resolve routine questions and complaints.
• 💰 Receive, process, and record tax payments and other municipal receivables.
• 📈 Perform bookkeeping and financial recordkeeping functions.
• 🏦 Assist with day-to-day operations, including bank and post office trips.

✅ Requirements & Skills

• 🎓 High School diploma and two years of experience in general accounting or bookkeeping.
• 🧮 Working knowledge of standard bookkeeping principles and procedures.
• 💻 Proficiency with standard office procedures and technology.
• 🗣️ Excellent communication and customer service skills, including patience and courtesy.
• 🚗 A valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicle during the workday.

💰 Stipend: $23.98 – $31.53 per hour
